€20m-rated Liga NOS right-back dreaming to play in Liverpool
Andre Almeida has revealed that he dreams of a Premier League move but admitted that he would struggle to start for the Merseyside club.“I always had the dream of going to the Premier League. I like Liverpool and Man United for their history,” Portugal international said.
“I also like Real Madrid and Barcelona, but I prefer the Premier League. I would not have the ability to play all the starting matches.” Reds require another right-back after Nathaniel Clyne sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the summer, with Trent Alexander-Arnold the only natural right-back in the club.
Joe Gomez, James Milner and Fabinho are all capable of deputising at fullback, but it would be preferable to have someone more comfortable in that place ready to stepping in should Trent get injured or suspended. Almeida spent his current career with Benfica and won the Liga NOS five times.
Of course, Andre is unlikely to be high up on Michael Edwards’ shopping list given his age, but German coach needs to identify a suitable target ahead of the winter transfer window because we saw the effect of what not having a creative backup to Alexander-Arnold can do. Portuguese defender can play in several positions.
Merseyside club struggled to create chances last campaign when the young right-back was injured and to avoid a similar situation arising again, Liverpool need to dip into the winter transfer market. The 29-year-old defender has contracted with the Portuguese club until 2023, and his release clause is around €20m.
