€20m-rated striker wants to move to Spain amid Chelsea links

Edinson Cavani has set his sights on moving to Spain next, according to his PSG team-mate Ander Herrera. Uruguay international is out of the deal this summer and is wanted by a host of clubs, including Chelsea and Ander Herrera’s former side Man United.

Edinson is Parisians all-time goalscorer and would be a big-name signing to any Premier League side, but Ander has poured cold water over the possibility of the striker moving to England. ‘I know Cavani wants to play in Spain. He loves the league and the country, he asks me about it a lot,’ Ander said.

‘However, since we left PSG I’ve not spoken to him about his situation.’ Newcastle United have emerged as surprise contenders for Edinson recently, but the striker himself is relaxed about his future. ‘My career will last for maybe several years still, here or elsewhere, I don’t know,’ Cavani said.

‘I’ve spoken about it a lot with my entourage. I’ve always said that I would like to quit football rather than football quitting me. I’d like to finish having given everything.’ The 33-year-old striker is now free to sort out his next club after Ligue 1 cancelled the rest of the 2019/20 campaign due to covid-19.

Man United were labelled severe contenders to sign the Uruguayan centre-forward earlier this year, but Man United have since extended Odion Ighalo’s loan deal. Ighalo will now remain at Old Trafford until January of next year, and the Norwegian manager now appears ready focus on other targets this summer.

The London club themselves are poised to make a big signing after agreeing to meet the release clause of RB Leipzig centre-forward Timo Werner.
