€35m-rated forward penned new contract with club amid Liverpool offer

Forward Steven Bergwijn has penned a new long-term contract at PSV Eindhoven, ending speculation regarding a transfer to a club in the Premier League. Having enjoyed a strong season with the Dutch giants last campaign, Netherlands international was linked with each of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Man United.

However, with a move having failed to materialise, Dutch winger has now signed a new four-year deal with the Dutch club. The 21-year-old told the club’s official website: “Signing a new deal was a conscious choice. I feel I have made the right decision.

“I was on the radar of a range of clubs, but I realised that everything should be perfect, both for me and PSV. And that’s why I decided to commit my long-term future to the club.” Steven is a product of the Lightbulbs youth academy and spent his current career with them.

He is one of the best forwards in Eredivisie and a key figure for the club. Last season Bergwijn played 41 matches, scored 15 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions. It is a fantastic result, and he can do much more during this campaign. He has contracted with the Dutch club until 2023, and his release clause is nearly €35m.

The 21-year-old winger is a regular member of the national team line-up which is already a big success for the footballer. Liverpool signed Sepp van der Berg from Zwolle and Harvey Elliott from Fulham this summer. Reds have a fantastic season as they won the Champions League final against Tottenham 2-0.
