€35m-rated Liverpool injured centre-back will miss rest of the season
Joel Matip will miss the remainder of the Reds Premier League season due to a foot injury. Cameroon international suffered the injury in the 0-0 draw with Everton at Goodison Park on June 21. Joel has been sidelined since that match and is now ready to be absent for the Merseyside giants’ remaining seven PL matches.
‘This season I will be not back on the pitch but for next season, I hope I’m going to be quite early a direct help for the team,’ Matip said. The 28-year-old centre-back has played 13 games for the newly crowned Premier League champions this campaign.
Joe Gomez replaced the Cameroonian defender in Reds starting line-up as Klopp’s side sealed a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Liverpool last Wednesday. Meanwhile, the German tactician urged Liverpool fans to curb their celebrations following the mass gatherings in the city centre last week.
‘What I did not love and I have to say this was the scenes that took place at the Pier Head on Friday,’ wrote the German tactician. ‘I am a human being and your passion is also my passion but right now the most important thing is that we do not have this kind of public gatherings.’
‘We owe it to the most vulnerable in our community, to the health workers who have given so much and whom we have applauded, and to the police and local authorities who help us as a club, not to do this. Please celebrate but celebrate in a safe way and in private settings, whereby we do not risk spreading this awful disease further in our community.’
