€60m-rated centre-forward set to pen long-term contract with Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he will hold negotiations with the London giants over the deal extension and is happy with the direction the Gunners is taking under new manager Mikel Arteta.

Gabon international, who is Arsenal’s top scorer this campaign, netted twice more on Wednesday evening against Norwich to become the fastest Gunners footballers to hit 50 PL goals doing so quicker even than Thierry Henry.

Gunners 4-0 victory, which takes them above north London rivals Spurs in the table, marked a day of double delight, with Bukayo Saka having committed his long-term future to the London giants earlier in the day.

Doubts still linger over Pierre-Emerick’s future, however, with his current deal expiring next summer, though he has not closed the door on signing an extension of his own.

Asked if he will delight Gunners supporters even more and follow Bukayo’s lead in signing a new contract, Aubameyang said: ‘I know, I know! I’m really happy that Bukayo signed dating! ‘And now we’ll see. We’ll talk with the club and we’re going to see what’s going to happen.’

‘But first of all, I’m really focused on the games, this end of the season, so we will see.’ Asked if he sees positive signs in the team under the Spanish manager, he continued: ‘Yeah, as I said, since Mikel is in we’re doing well and we’re working very well, so we have good signs that we are improving.’

The Gabonese centre-forward has continued to score freely despite Gunners struggles this campaign and manager Mikel Arteta has been full of praise for his talisman after his record-breaking evening.
