Everton enter the battle to sign €65m-rated Liverpool transfer target
Highly-rated Lille superstar Nicolas Pepe is a transfer target for Everton this transfer window after being linked with their Merseyside clubs Liverpool in recent months. Ivory Coast international enjoyed a sensational season in Ligue 1, scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists as Les Dogues finished second in the table behind runaway champions PSG.
It was reported last week that Nicolas, who is currently at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt with his national team, has held discussions with the Reds over a move to Anfield this transfer window. Reds have denied that is the case with German manager happy with his Champions League winning squad.
However, the 24-year-old forward could still make a move to Merseyside to join Toffees instead. Everton are exploring the possibility of signing Ivorian attacker, but they will have to smash their transfer record in order to do so with French club valuing him at £58.5m.
Marco Silva is keen to sign a left-footed winger who can play on the right wing to his squad this transfer window and Toffees have also been heavily linked with Malcom and David Neres. Malcom is free to leave Blaugrana this summer for a fee of £31m to create room for Griezmann, but Everton could face competition for him from the Gunners.
Nicolas has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent years after starting his career in France’s fifth-tier with Poitiers before playing for Orleans in the third division and then Angers in Ligue 1. Only PSG star Kylian Mbappe with 33 goals scored more times in Ligue 1 last campaign than Ivorian, despite Pepe playing in a right-wing position for Lille.
