German club keen on signing £110,000-a-week Chelsea striker

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea centre-forward Olivier Giroud in winter. The 33-year-old striker has been far from a regular under Frank Lampard this campaign, playing just six games across all tournaments with a goal and an assist to his name. Lucien Favre wants to bolster the front-line in summer.

Despite featuring sporadically for the Blues, Olivier has to remain a regular in the Les Bleus setup, scoring four goals during the Euro qualifiers including the winner in last night’s fixture with Moldova in Paris. Bundesliga giants are interested in signing Giroud who they also wanted last summer.

London club have set France international’s asking price at £7m. Given the way Abraham has been performing for the Blues, it’s highly unlikely French centre-forward will have much game time at Chelsea. His contract expires next summer so he can move to any club for free although the Blues might prefer a transfer in winter.

German club currently have Paco Alcacer as their first-choice centre-forward while Mario Gotze has also played in that position a few times this campaign. Having an experienced footballer like World Cup winner will certainly add more depth to their attack and the Frenchman could also find some first-team chances under Lucien Favre.

Borussia Dortmund started this season excellently as they are in a sixth place in the Bundesliga table. German giants signed several footballers during the summer transfer window like Julian Brandt from Bayer Leverkusen, Thorgan Hazard from Borussia Monchengladbach, Nuco Schulz from Hoffenheim and Mats Hummels from Bayern Munich.
