Gunners join race to sign €60m-rated Champions League winning winger

Gunners have reportedly sounded out Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio over a summer transfer to the Emirates Stadium. London club have asked Los Blancos about Marco, Lucas Vazquez and Dani Ceballos, the latter of whom looks close to finalising a loan move to Unai Emery’s side for the duration of the 2019/20 campaign.

Ceballos is nearing his move to Arsenal as they state the young Spaniard will have his medical on Tuesday. However, it seems Arsenal also tried for the somewhat ambitious signing of Asensio. Spaniard also linked with Liverpool and Tottenham and the Merseyside club launching a big bid of nearly £66.5m for him.

It stays to be seen if Asensio will end up in England, but it’s fair to say his playing time is likely to become more limited this campaign after Real’s summer swoops for Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic upfront. Marco could do well to join a club like Arsenal, where he’d surely play more often as a significant upgrade on the likes of Iwobi and Mkhitaryan.

He could also make a decent alternative to Wilfried Zaha, who has been linked with the Gunners once again. Reds would surely also benefit from having the 23-year-old winger as a squad player, though more of a key role than he currently has at Madrid could probably not be guaranteed.

Last season Asensio played 44 matches, scored six goals and provided nine assists in all competitions. He is a regular member of the Furia Roja line-up and also helped them to reach the playoff in the 2018 World Cup, but after losing in a penalty shoot-out against Russia, they knocked out from the tournament.
