Italian club identified Liverpool defender as a replacement for Antonio Rudiger

Roma have reached Liverpool over a deal to land Mamadou Sakho this summer.

Roma are seeking a new centre-half after losing Antonio Rudiger to Chelsea.

Kostas Manolas may also be prised away from the Serie A side, meaning successors need to be lined up.

And the Sun on Sunday suggests Liverpool’s Sakho is now on their radar.

As reported by the media, the Rome club have already spoken to Liverpool about a potential deal.

The African has been exiled from the Liverpool team since last summer after upsetting head coach Jurgen Klopp on their pre-season tour.

The centre-half performed half of last campaign on loan at Crystal Palace before a knee injury finished that stint.

Palace wants to land Sakho again but on loan – an agreement The Reds are not keen on.

The Reds would favour to cash in on the France international and get him off their books for good.

The Sun on Sunday suggests Liverpool rate Sakho at £30million, which may be too critical for Roma.

They are already in intense negotiations with Leicester over a move for Riyad Mahrez and are reluctant to stump up the £45m fee the Foxes are asking.

Roma and Liverpool have already been in business this summer, with Mohamed Salah joining the Merseyside club in a deal worth around £40m.

Mahrez was assigned as an ideal replacement for the African.
