Jose Enrique urges Liverpool to sign €60m-rated Brazilian playmaker
Jose Enrique says Philippe Coutinho would be the perfect attacker for Reds, but his high wages may make any deal to bring him back to Merseyside club difficult.
The Barcelona playmaker was shipped out on a season-long loan to Bayern Munich at the start of this season and the Bavarians have decided not to take up an option to buy the footballer permanently.
The Blaugrana are willing to offload Brazil international this summer but may struggle to find a suitor given his astronomical £250,000-a-week wages. However, Philippe is reportedly ready to take a pay cut and is said to have even personally asked Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to re-sign him.
And ex-Liverpool defender Jose Enrique believes that Coutinho would thrive back at his old stomping ground. Jose said: ‘We need a playmaker, a No.10, who is going to be better than Coutinho for us? ‘He knows the club, he knows the city, he’s going to perform straight away because he’s been a Premier League player.’
‘The only problem is wages-wise, I believe he’s very, very high wages-wise in Barcelona, so I’m not sure if he will go to Liverpool obviously losing money. The problem with Barcelona, they try to play him on the left side all the time, in Neymar’s position and he’s not this type of player, he needs to play in the middle.’
The 28-year-old playmaker appears to have little future at the Catalan club though, and two-and-a-half years on from swapping life on Liverpool for Barcelona, he is being tipped for a return by ex-Liverpool defender Enrique.
