Juventus keep a close eye on £45,000-a-week Chelsea left-back

Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri is plotting a raid on his former club as he eyes a move for left-back Emerson Palmieri. Bianconeri are short at defence, with Alex Sandro the first choice in that position, but with little cover afforded to the Italian tactician behind Brazilian left-back.

Italy international has emerged as a target for a winter offer, with Maurizio having been impressed with Emerson during his one-season stay at London club over the last season. Palmieri displaced Marcos Alonso as the first choice left-back at Stamford Bridge, starting the first five matches of the Premier League campaign, before his injury.

Blues would be loathed to lose the 25-year-old defender, with a transfer ban still in place until next summer and with coach Frank Lampard a fan of his attacking intentions from full-back. Italian left-back was expected to add a new deal last month, after his fantastic start to the campaign, and Chelsea may well reignite talks with the Old Lady.

Italian manager will press for a move for his former footballer, though, after having to deploy Blaise Matuidi as emergency left-back earlier this campaign with Sandro out injured. Sarri also has the option of former Man City full-back Danilo but wants a more natural left-sided defender to compete with Sandro for a place in the starting line-up.

However, Emerson Palmieri spoke earlier this campaign of his love of life in London club, so he may not fancy a come back to Serie A any time soon. ‘I arrived a year-and-a-half ago, and I’m just so happy at Chelsea,’ Emerson told Chelsea’s official website.
