Liam Brady unsatisfied with €30m-rated Arsenal attacker performances
Gunners legend Liam Brady believes Freddie Ljungberg needs to stand up to Mesut Ozil and drop him from the squad which will line-up with West Ham United on Monday.
The 31-year-old playmaker was frozen out by the Spanish manager earlier this season, but a poor run of form forced Unai to perform an embarrassing U-turn and bring him back in from the cold.
Mesut has featured in seven of Gunners last eight matches and started both games under interim boss Ljungberg, but his return has failed to yield an improvement in results. Arsenal suffered their first-ever home defeat with Brighton in midweek and are now only five points above the relegation zone ahead of a daunting run of fixtures.
And Ozil, who left the pitch appearing to berate teammate Alexandre Lacazette on Thursday, should not be anywhere near the side, according to Liam. He said: ‘Have you seen Ozil? Have we seen Ozil? He’s at £350,000-a-week. I know people go on about wages, but he’s on £350,000-a-week, and he’s not trying.
‘I would have a kid in the team who is going to run around and show some enthusiasm. ‘I think Freddie thinks he’s a bit too big to take on as he’s only the interim manager.
He should not be on the team. Unai bombed him from the team for at least two months and then backtracked and put him in the team again and I think that contributed to his downfall. ‘They have several youngsters who have done well in the Europa League and League Cup, they had a tremendous game up at Liverpool.’
