Liverpool defender explained the reason of celebration after Crystal Palace clash
Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has defended his celebrations with Crystal Palace forward Christian Benteke during Liverpool’s loss to the Eagles at the weekend.
The Frenchman is a Liverpool footballer however is currently on loan with the London club after a falling out with Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp.
Crystal Palace overcome Liverpool 2-1 on Sunday with Benteke scoring both goals.
After the first, the striker ran over to the touchline and celebrated with Sakho, with the duo performing a rock-paper-scissor motivated move.
They then did it again after the full-time whistle, much to the anger of Liverpool fans.
Sakho has since moved to clarify how he came to celebrate – saying it was not an intended dig at his parent club.
“When Christian scored, I stayed seated as I didn’t want to celebrate by respect for the club to which I belong and the fans,” Sakho told the Liverpool Echo.
“But when he came over to me, I stood up and did what we always do as friends, our hand check. There was nothing behind it, nothing else to imply by it. Just two friends who are playing for the same team and who have the same goal, which is to get the three points at each game to make sure the team stays in the Premier League.
“If we were losing 2-0 and Christian reduced the score, we would have also done it if he came to me.” – He Added.
