Liverpool given green light to sign No.7 Nigerian goal machine
Lille boss Christophe Galtier has handed Reds a huge transfer boost with the news that Victor Osimhen is ready to be sold by the club. The 21-year-old centre-forward seems a huge prospect after impressing in Ligue 1 in recent times, and it’s little shock that he will now surely be moving on to a bigger team.
The Merseyside giants have been strongly linked with Victor recently, and if they’re still interested, they will now surely be delighted with this news from Galtier. Speaking at a press conference, the Lille manager made it clear he was planning for Nigeria international to be leaving.
“Regarding Victor and Gabriel, yes, I’ve known for a long time that they’re leaving,” Galtier said.“They’re working hard with us in the meantime. We’re working on the players who are currently here and those likely to replace them. Of course, the club is working to replace him.”
Victor could surely be a useful signing for the Reds, who also considered signing Timo Werner upfront before he ended up at London club. Reds supporters would surely take Nigeria international as an alternative to Timo, with the teenager looking a terrific prospect who could give the German tactician more depth in the front-line.
Despite the first-choice front three of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane being as good as anything in world football right now, Jurgen Klopp arguably lacks backup behind those three.
The Merseyside giants do need to improve the depth of their attack, but they opted not to meet the £49m asking price to lure 24-year-old Timo Werner, who has been fit for Leipzig.
