Liverpool in pole position to sign 23-year-old Spain international

Merseyside club face Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, and it will provide German manager with the opportunity to personally scout reported target Fabian Ruiz. Last week, Reds named as one of four major European clubs interested in signing Spain international, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Fabian’s silky dribbling style, brilliant vision and finishing would make him a fine addition to most midfielders in Europe. It’s arguably the best match for Jurgen to have a look at Ruiz as he will be tested against the best club outfit in the world and will need to come up with answers against an incredibly powerful tactical system.

It’s undeniable that the 23-year-old midfielder would be extremely effective against the likes of Bournemouth in the Premier League but whether or not he can cut it in the biggest matches of the campaign is unknown as things stand. Ruiz has contracted with the Italian club until 2023, and his release clause is around €50m.

Hopefully, he doesn’t score or assist with Reds, but German manager will be hoping to see some promising signs from Liverpool’ reported target. He also named in the Furia Roja squad several times which is already a big success for the midfielder.

Even if he has a bad match, it doesn’t necessarily mean Spaniard won’t get a move to Anfield as Alisson Becker earned a Liverpool move worth £66.7m after conceding seven goals across two matches against the Merseyside club in 2018. Reds also want to sign Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz and Leicester City star James Maddison.
