Liverpool in pole position to sign 23-year-old Super Lig goalkeeper

Merseyside club are keeping a close eye on Trabzonspor shot-stopper Ugurcan Cakir, the report adds that the ace impressed Liverpool scouts with his performance against Fenerbahce this weekend.

Turkey international ensured that his side came away from the Super Lig clash with a draw by making a sensational eight saves, this equalled the star’s record for most saves in a match in his career. Reds are on the hunt for a long-term backup to Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who is currently sidelined with an injury.

Cakir certainly fits the bill, the ace is 23 years old and is Trabzonspor’s first-choice shot-stopper. The 6 ft 3 in goalkeeper has already made seven appearances for his side this campaign. Liverpool have informed the Super Lig club that they will be tracking the goalkeeper closely in the coming months.

Ligue 1 club Bordeaux are also interested in a move for the shot-stopper and that he’s currently valued at £14m. The 23-year-old goalkeeper already has one senior Turkey cap to his name, and he may add to that tally in his country’s Euro 2020 qualifying clashes with Andorra and Moldova during this international break.

Former West Ham star Adrian is currently Reds number one shot-stopper in the absence of Alisson. Liverpool have also signed veteran goalkeeper Andy Lonergan to a short-term deal to solve their crisis. Adrian has experienced a whirlwind time with the Merseyside outfit since signing on a free transfer.

Turkish goalkeeper looks like a reliable option for the Merseyside club to consider in the long-term if the ace is to establish himself as Turkey’s number one in the coming months.
