Liverpool in the battle to sign No.11 German centre-forward
Merseyside club have reportedly approached to beat Blues to the transfer of RB Leipzig centre-forward Timo Werner. Liverpool are working on signing Germany international despite Real Madrid interest in potentially raiding the Reds for a centre-forward Sadio Mane.
Timo could make sense as a decent replacement in front-line for the Reds, though of course their fans won’t be at all keen on losing a footballer as in-form as Sadio. Blues have also been linked with Werner in recent times, with the centre-forward also mentioned as having a release clause of nearly €50m in a report from The Athletic.
That would surely make the 23-year-old striker a bargain for Reds or Blues, with the centre-forward long looking like one of the finest young footballers in Europe. With 84 goals in all tournaments across the last four campaigns, the German striker has shown his fine touch in front of goal, and he should now be approaching his peak years.
Merseyside club don’t look too desperate for a new striker right now, but, as mentioned, if Don Balon’s report of Real Madrid’s interest in Sadio is accurate, there’s no doubt they could do a lot worse than bring in Timo and it looks they are making plans of that nature.
Chelsea, meanwhile, surely need more reinforcements upfront due to being overly reliant on star Tammy Abraham this campaign, and Werner seems an ideal candidate for the London club. Timo is a regular member of the national team starting line-up and also played in the 2018 World Cup which is already a big success for the centre-forward.
