Liverpool interested in signing €20m-rated Premier League defender

Liverpool are interested in signing Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand. Former England international is also solid defensively, and amid turning 30, he has the pace to make recovery runs and retain possession.

English defender has been one of Southampton’s consistent performers for the last few campaigns. He managed just 24 Premier League appearances last term due to injury problems, but in 2017/18, the left-back had missed only three league matches.

Merseyside club have made the impressive start to the 2019-20 campaign. After winning the Champions League last campaign and coming extremely close to breaking their Premier League trophy drought, German tactician was expected to spend big in the summer transfer window.

Surprisingly, Reds had a very quiet transfer window with shot-stopper Adrian the most significant name arriving at Anfield. Alberto Moreno joined Villarreal on a free transfer after spending five years in Merseyside club. He didn’t manage any meaningful first-team football in the last couple of seasons as his place was taken by Andrew Robertson.

Andrew, who had a stellar 2018-19 campaign, was part of the PFA Team of the Year and the UEFA Champions League Squad of the campaign. He is undoubtedly the best left-back in the Premier League, with his position in the Reds starting XI unassailable.

However, just like any other top football club that challenges in various tournaments, Reds too, need a back-up for Robertson. He may play almost all games, therefore, Liverpool needs to secure the services of a player who is happy to play second fiddle to Scotland international.
