Liverpool keen on signing 22-year-old promising left-back

The Merseyside giants are reportedly lining up an offer to sign Jamal Lewis as cover for Andy Robertson, with the Reds manager a ‘big admirer’ of the Norwich defender. The English defender impressed his first campaign in the English top-flight but was unable to prevent the Canaries from sinking down into the Championship.

Three years ago, the Merseyside giants captured Robertson from relegated Hull City for a fee of only £8m which is now regarded as one of the bargains of the PL era, and the Reds have similar plans for Jamal this summer.

There is great ‘excitement’ about Jamal at Anfield after a string of excellent displays in recent months and a £10m offer is in the works. Jamal’s versatility makes him an attractive proposition for Liverpool, considering Jurgen Klopp is also looking for cover at centre-back following Dejan Lovren’s switch to a Russian club.

The Northern Irishman’s ambitions to play regularly may get in the way of a possible deal but the newly-crowned champions are confident they can convince him with the lure of UCL football. Cherries defender Lloyd Kelly, who also suffered relegation this campaign, is another defender on Reds radar ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Kelly, like Jamal, has proven he’s comfortable playing in centre-back and at left-back since arriving at the Vitality Stadium. Reds registered an interest in Kelly last summer when the England Under-21 international was still at Bristol City but missed out on his signature to Bournemouth.
