Liverpool leading the race to sign 23-year-old Turkey international

Trabzonspor shot-stopper Ugurcan Cakir’s agent Engin Kirkpinar has said that the Merseyside club are interested in signing his client but has ruled out any opportunity of a winter move for the £18m-rated goalkeeper. Turkey international has starred for Trabzonspor over the past couple of campaigns.

Ugurcan has even broke into Turkey’s national team, clocking up two caps during 2019. Cakir’s performances have caught the attention of those at Liverpool, and indeed the Premier League. Reds do have a back-up shot-stopper in Adrian after the Spanish goalkeeper moved to Anfield on a free transfer from West Ham United in the summer.

Loris Karius is on loan at Trabzonspor’s rivals Besiktas, while Simon Mignolot left to join Club Brugge. A new shot-stopper could be brought in by Jurgen Klopp, then, and the 23-year-old goalkeeper agent has confirmed that Reds are keen, but are only one of four PL clubs interested in the Turkish shot-stopper.

His agent did rule out a move in winter, though. “Liverpool are one of four English sides keeping close tabs on Ugurcan,” Kirkpinar said. “Liverpool are among the sides interested in Cakir and have been monitoring his progress. “Trabzonspor value Cakir as being worth a minimum €20m and will not sell him in winter.

An end of campaign move could, however, be on the cards.” Probably not. Adrian has signed a deal at Liverpool until the summer of 2021, and his performances in the absence of Alisson during the start of the campaign were second to none, and enough to earn him the status back-up shot-stopper.
