Liverpool manager provides injury update on two important players
Merseyside club manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly decided to start both Alisson Becker and Joel Matip against Red Devils this weekend. Becker suffered a calf injury during Reds opening game of the campaign with Norwich and has not featured since, with Adrian playing every minute in the Premier League between the sticks.
Alisson returned to light work at the start of last month and finally joined up with his team-mates in full training this week ahead of Merseyside club’s trip to Man United. Joel also trained at Melwood after picking up a knock before the international break, and both players came through Tuesday’s session unscathed.
The duo did enough to convince German tactician that they are set to face bitter rivals Red Devils on the weekend. Mohamed Salah stays a doubt for the match as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury he sustained against Leicester City.
Naby Keita trained as usual after he has rested for Guineas two games during the international break, while Sadio Mane is expected to be back on Wednesday. Firmino and Fabinho are ready to return to Liverpool on Thursday following Brazil’s friendlies with Senegal and Nigeria.
Michael Owen, who controversially turned out for both Man United and Liverpool during his playing days, has predicted a comfortable win for Jurgen’s side this weekend.
‘Red Devils have won only two of their last 13 league matches and a barometer of their performance at St James’ Park last time was that central defender Harry Maguire had more touches in the Magpies penalty area than any other United player,’ Owen said.
