Liverpool started negotiations with 27-year-old Croatia international

Merseyside club were reportedly scouting Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. The 27-year-old midfielder has been in fine form for the Nerazzurri this campaign so far, amassing three goals and five assists in 28 games across all tournaments so far.

Liverpool observed Marcelo during last weekend’s Milan Derby in which he scored a fantastic goal as Serie A giants came from 2-0 down to win 4-2. The report also claims that the Nerazzurri are willing to give a new deal to Brozovic who has a release clause of €60m.

This would extend Croatia international’s stay till 2024 and see his salary rise from €3.2m to €4.5-€4.7m. The Croatian midfielder has also been linked to Real Madrid lately with Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claiming that Zinedine Zidane is interested in signing him.

Marcelo has been a key footballer for Inter Milan since joining them from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015. So far, Brozovic has played 182 matches for the Serie A side, scoring 23 goals and providing 22 assists.

Marcelo would be needed if Inter are to win the league this campaign and be dominant in the upcoming campaigns and the Nerazzurri would prefer if he penned a new deal with them. Besides, Reds already have some pretty good midfielders in their squad and may not need another one.

Liverpool have fantastic consequences in the Premier League this campaign as they are leading the table. Merseyside club signed several players during the summer transfer window like Sepp van den Berg from Zwolle, Harvey Elliott from Fulham, Spanish shot-stopper Adrian and English goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.
