Man United are closely monitoring €55m-rated Netherlands international

Red Devils are reportedly expected to complete the transfer of Ajax playmaker Donny van de Beek by next week. The 22-year-old midfielder was linked with Man United yesterday in a report from ESPN, and it looks the saga has moved quite quickly since then.

The latest update is that Red Devils now look like beating Real Madrid and other top clubs to Donny’s signature in a £60m deal. This could be superb business by Man United, who look in urgent need of adding more quality to their options in midfield after a difficult campaign.

Paul Pogba has been out injured for most of this campaign so far, and the likes of Andreas Pereira and Fred have not looked good enough in his absence. That surely leaves room for someone like Van de Beek if Man United can get him, with the playmaker looking one of the finest youngsters in Europe in recent times.

Los Blancos had hoped to sign the Netherlands international in the summer, while also targeting the signing of Paul from Man United. Red Devils interest certainly makes sense, as the Dutch playmaker was among their top targets this winter.

This may well have prompted Liverpool to join the running as Jurgen Klopp could be wary of such a top talent moving to one of his side’s rivals and bolstering them in what is currently an area of real weakness in their squad. Donny is a regular member of the national team squad and also helped them to get the Euro 2020 ticket.
