Man United closely monitoring €55m-rated Netherlands international
Red Devils are reportedly among the clubs who could pounce for Ajax playmaker Donny van de Beek as Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is yet to green-light his transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu. Man United could do with that kind of quality in their midfield, even if they only recently signed Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.
The 22-year-old midfielder has shone at Ajax, showing himself to be one of the finest youngsters in the world in his position, and it looks likely he’ll be playing in a more competitive league before too long. The agreement is more or less in place for Donny to join La Liga giants, but that Zizou himself seems to be behind the deal being held up.
This could present the chance to other big names, with Man United mentioned as being among them, alongside PL rivals Tottenham. Paul Pogba’s future stays in doubt as he linked as a target for Juventus, and Van de Beek could undoubtedly make an ideal replacement in that area of the pitch.
The Netherlands international has also recently been linked as a target for the Red Devils, and it looks the prospect of a hijack may be growing all the time. Man United might be dragged into a bidding war, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made the signing for an elite midfielder his priority in the next transfer window.
The Red Devils offer to sign the Dutch midfielder might depend on the future of Paul Pogba. Zinedine Zidane wants to bring the Wolrd Cup winner to Real and would presumably halt efforts to land Donny if Man United sanctioned France international’s move to La Liga.
