Man United dealt huge blow No.7 top transfer target
Manchester United will have to fight with Barcelona to land Antoine Griezmann next summer, according to reports.
The Atletico Madrid attacker was heavily linked with a transfer to Old Trafford in the summer; however United were powerless to lure him away from Spain. Griezmann decided to remain after Atletico were hit with a transfer embargo, but he stays on United’s ‘agenda’. However, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo suggest that agenda could be destroyed by Barcelona.
Barcelona are aiming a massive summer overhaul of footballers after a disappointing window that saw them lose Neymar and miss out on Philippe Coutinho. And the Catalan side have made poaching Griezmann from Atletico their No.1 priority next term. Barcelona wants any contract for Griezmann to be agreed before the World Cup in Russia.
The competition kicks off in middle of the June with stars across the world linking up with their international squads soon after the end of the club campaign. Griezmann is a driven on started for France and has been their most influential player in the last 18 months.
United will be concerned by Barcelona’s interest with the belief Griezmann would prefer to stay in Spain. Griezmann will fetch £90million next summer with his release clause set to drop. Jose Mourinho wants United to return for Griezmann as he is expected to be allowed to walk next summer.
