Manchester United insist there is ‘nothing in’ claims they have agreed a move for Wolves forward Raul Jimenez.

Portuguese public service broadcaster RTP reported Jimenez was in line to move to the Red Devils as Wolves had agreed a deal to sign Braga attacker Paulinho.

However, senior United sources have informed the MEN the report was inaccurate and the Raul article cannot be found on the RTP sport landing page.

In the five-paragraph story, Raul’s ‘is on his way to Manchester United’ isn’t mentioned until the fourth paragraph.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be an admirer of Jimenez and the club declared interest in the January transfer window when youngster Marcus Rashford sustained a double stress fracture to his back.

Jimenez is contracted to Wolves until June of 2023 and United turned to Shanghai Shenhua star Odion Ighalo, initially on loan until the end of the campaign , before it was extended until January 1.

Anthony Martial has excelled as the club’s number nine this season, scoring 22 goals in 39 games, Marcus Rashford is capable of playing through the middle and has as many goals while talent Mason Greenwood is on 17.

United have earmarked a wide attacker and a forward as priority positions to reinforce their attack, rather than another No.9, amid interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.

Mexico international Raul was among the Jorge Mendes clients who moved to the club following their promotion to the Premier League in 2018, originally on loan. Wolves brought in Jimenez permanently for a club-record £30 million last summer.
