Man United enter the battle to sign 21-year-old German attacker
The Red Devils could reportedly revive their interest in Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz in what would be a huge transfer blow for Chelsea. The 21-year-old is widely expected to move to Chelsea this summer after agreeing on a five-year deal with Chelsea, while Bundesliga giants’ UEL exit should clear him to now finalise his switch.
Now, however, Red Devils could be back in the running after the blow of Borussia Dortmund signalling they won’t be selling Jadon Sancho to Man United this summer. Red Devils stay admirers of Kai and the playmaker could now be seen as a decent alternative to Sancho.
This would be a smart move by the Norwegian manager’s side, as it would have the added bonus of majorly hurting their top-four rivals Blues. Both clubs would no doubt benefit from the qualities Havertz brings, with the attacker enjoying another fantastic campaign, drawing comparisons with Germany legends Michael Ballack and Mesut Ozil.
Blues will no doubt hope they stay in pole position for Germany international after such strong links, but it would be interesting to see if the player could have his head turned by interest from the Red Devils.
Bundesliga giants have been adamant that they will not agree with any transfer for the German playmaker while they stay in the UEL, but Chelsea currently lead the battle for the attacker. He is now reported to have agreed on personal terms at Chelsea ahead of a proposed transfer, which is likely to take place later this month.
