Man United held negotiations with €30m-rated Ligue 1 star

Man United are reportedly considering the possibility of signing Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain before the transfer deadline next week. Red Devils parted ways with Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan last summer without pursuing a replacement, and that has certainly limited the options in the front-line.

Man United are now expected to be without Marcus Rashford for at least two months after a double stress fracture in his back, and that is likely to tempt the board to bolster the attack. Red Devils have their sights on a possible deal for Uruguay international from the Parisians, but they are yet to make a formal approach for the centre-forward.

While Edinson has the widespread experience and a good record in front of goal, the club look concerned over his £360,000-a-week wages after tax, particularly with him approaching the final phase of his career. Ole Gunnar Solskjær wants to strengthen the front-line during the transfer window.

Cavani will celebrate his 33rd birthday next month, and the club’s hierarchy appears worried over a possible repeat of the Alexis Sanchez situation, where the Chilean forward looked out of sorts playing for the club. The 32-year-old star, who is currently valued at £12.6m, has bagged more than 20 league goals in each of his previous nine campaigns.

The Uruguayan centre-forward has, however, struggled this term with only five goals from 14 games. The ex-Napoli striker has recently had limited first-team football due to form and injury concerns, and he would certainly be a gamble purchase for Man United with the wages and transfer fees involved.
