Man United in the hunt for €75m-rated Bundesliga goal machine

Liverpool hero Didi Hamann says summer target Timo Werner is better off joining rivals Man United or Chelsea, where he will get more guaranteed playing time. Germany international has been linked with a move to Liverpool after bagging 26 goals in 32 games for the Bundesliga club this campaign.

After scoring the winner in his club’s 1-0 victory against Tottenham on Tuesday night in the Champions League, Timo admitted he was ‘proud’ to be linked with the ‘best team in the world’ Liverpool.

In a column for German outlet Sky, ex-Reds midfielder Hamann wrote: ‘Timo Werner has continuously improved, he has scored again in the Champions League and has already scored more than 20 goals in the Bundesliga this season. ‘I trust him to play in a huge team soon. It is, of course, an honour for him to be linked to Liverpool.

‘With Firmino, Liverpool have a striker who is always playable and connects a lot with his team-mates. Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League knockout tie, and Hamann believes progression to the next round will be a tough ask.

He added: ‘After winning 4-0 in the second leg last season against Barcelona, everyone thinks they can do it, but they didn’t have a single shot on goal in Madrid. ‘It is nothing new, however, that they have their problems away from home, that was already the case last season. Atletico will also tear up in Liverpool, I expect a fascinating second leg.’
