Man United join race to sign 23-year-old Serie A midfielder
Red Devils have been linked with Giallorossi playmaker Zaniolo in recent weeks, and as per recent reports, another Roma footballer is on the wish list of Man United. Red Devils are courting Lorenzo Pellegrini, who has got a release clause of €40m in his contract.
The likes of Spurs, Inter Milan and Serie A champions Juventus are also interested in Italy international, but for now, the midfielder is looking to stay with the Stadio Olimpico, and he could agree on a new contract with the Giallorossi next year.
Lorenzo is a versatile talent, who can effectively play in multiple midfield positions, but naturally, he is a creative central midfielder. Pellegrini has been in top-class form for the Italian club in the current season despite missing out on the action in the entire month of October due to a metatarsal fracture.
Since his return from injury, the 23-year-old player has provided four assists in the last three matches. In all tournaments, the Italian midfielder has started nine matches under the management of Pablo Fonseca this campaign and provided no fewer than eight assists.
At Old Trafford, Man United lack quality and depth in their midfield, which was not reinforced in the summer transfer window. The likes of Matic, Pogba and recently McTominay have been injured, and in the last match against Villa, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to use Andreas Pereira, a natural CAM, in the central midfield with Fred.
Therefore, Man United must move in to secure a versatile midfielder in the January window. The Red Devils signed several footballers during the summer transfer window like Harry Maguire from Leicester City, Daniel James from Swansea and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.
