Man United keen on acquiring services of Leicester stopper this summer

Manchester United are considering a surprise move for Kasper Schmeichel, the son of club icon Peter Schmeichel.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a lot of thinking to do regarding who should be the Red Devils’ no.1 next season, with David de Gea’s form suffering a big slump over the last year.

Kasper, who still has three years left on his current contract at Leicester, is seen as a ready-made replacement.

The 33-year-old star, who won the Premier League with Leicester four seasons ago, would be available for a much cheaper price than the likes of Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, who has an exit clause of around £109 million.

Solskjaer will also have young Dean Henderson to consider following a stellar season at Sheffield United. Henderson was also on loan at Bramall Lane when they got promoted to the English top-flight in 2018/19.

However, The Sun report that the United boss has doubts about Henderson and is thus considering other stoppers, including Schmeichel.

De Gea is arguably the greatest stopper Man United have had since Peter Schmeichel but the player made a number of costly errors in 2019/20.

The Sun’s report adds that Solskjaer has sat down with his staff over the past few weeks to study David’s numbers over the past few years.

Dean will want regular senior team football as he looks to secure a place in the England roster for next summer’s rescheduled Euro 2020 finals.

Meanwhile, Kasper boasts seven years worth of international experience for his country and also played in the Foxes’ run to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in 2016/17.
