Man United keep a close eye on €25m-rated South American starlet

The Red Devils are lining up Velez Sarsfield forward Thiago Almada as one of three possible alternatives to Jadon Sancho, according to reports. England international is one of the Norwegian managers’s top targets for the summer transfer window, and Man United are confident of reaching a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the attacker.

But the Red Devils are still keeping tabs on other options if they miss out on Jadon. The report claims that U20 Argentina international is on Man United’s shortlist alongside Bournemouth playmaker David Brooks and Schalke forward Rabbi Matondo.

Thiago, who has also been linked with a move to Man City, is highly rated in Argentina and was managed at Velez Sarsfield by ex-Red Devils centre-back Gabriel Heinze before he stepped down in March.

Gabriel was the one who gave Almada his first-team debut in August 2018, and the attacker has already shown much promise with nine goals and four assists in 46 games for Velez Sarsfield. Camavinga, the Rennes star, is considered one for the future but Man United face competition from Real Madrid for his signature.

Brooks, meanwhile, has not made an appearance for the Cherries this campaign after suffering an ankle ligament injury last July. However, the Wales international is now fully fit and set to make an impact when the PL restarts later this month.

Matondo, who is also on Red Devils shortlist, has taken a similar career path to Sancho after he left Man City to play in the Bundesliga with the Miners. The 19-year-old winger, who has been capped four times by Wales, has scored one goal in 12 games this campaign.
