Man United leading race to sign 20-year-old African defensive rock
Red Devils are stepping up their interest in Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu. The Ghanaian centre-back is also being chased by the two Madrid clubs, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, and could be snagged at a cut-price of just £10m, according to Diario AS.
La Liga club Valladolid have been unsuccessful in persuading Mohammed to extend his current deal, which is due to expire in 2022. If those negotiations fail to come to fruition, Salisu would be available at an attractive price given his age and promise.
The 20-year-old centre-back has been a key component in Valladolid’s team, starting in every one of their 23 league games so far this campaign. The left-footed centre-back has contributed to his side’s defensive solidity just conceding 25 goals all season.
Red Devils could find themselves in a race with Real Madrid, who may be looking at finding a long-term replacement for 33-year-old captain Sergio Ramos. Man United made bolstering their back-line a priority last summer, with Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly reportedly their first choice.
The Norwegian manager is also planning a double transfer swoop for English midfield pair James Maddison and Jack Grealish. Man United signed several footballers during the summer transfer window like Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace, Daniel James from Swansea and Harry Maguire from Leicester City,
Red Devils have terrible consequences in the Premier League this campaign as they are in an 8th place in the table. PL giants also added Bruno Fernandes from Sporting and Odion Ighalo from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua during the winter transfer window.
