Man United leading the race to sign 19-year-old prolific English winger
Red Devils hopes of signing Jadon Sancho have been given a significant boost with Borussia Dortmund preparing for the f0rward’s exit next summer. Norwegian manager had identified England international as a priority signing within weeks of his tenure at Old Trafford.
However, Man United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League scuppered their chances of signing Sancho. Jadon, for his part, was open to a move to England but the German club saw little reason in cashing in after just 18 months after capturing the forward from Man City.
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke admitted this week that the club were resigned to losing to the 19-year-old attacker and confirmed he turned down an approach from a ‘super club’ last Spring, which was believed to be the Red Devils. ‘There aren’t many 19-year-olds with such potential,’ Watzke told Ruhr Nachrichten.
‘He is also not a player from the region or one who would have any connection to it. ‘When you have a footballer like Jadon Sancho, you must reassess the situation every single year. Everything else would not be honest. ‘If a foreign player is not convinced that the club is right for him at the exact time, it just does not make any sense.’
Bundesliga giants are already looking for a replacement for English winger as they’re resigned to losing him next summer. Man United are believed to be the most advanced club in moving for Jadon but former club Man City have not ruled out a rival bid. Real Madrid also consider a move for Sancho if he continues on his current trajectory.
