Man United manager preparing to sell five footballers this summer
Man United manager is reportedly planning to offload some of the Red Devils big earners this summer as he looks to raise funds to sign Jadon Sancho. Any deal for the Borussia Dortmund forward will be pricey, with his current club demanding £110m to sell the 20-year-old forward.
Amid the covid pandemic, Man United chiefs are uncomfortable shelling out that much on a player and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he will have to raise extra funds through sales. Slashing the wage bill is a priority for the Red Devils boss, which makes Alexis high on his list of footballers to offload.
Jesse Lingard is also ready to leave Man United, with fellow academy graduate Andreas Pereira also likely to head out of the exit door. English defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are also up for sale. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would like to get rid of all of them, however, he accepts Alexis’ £400,000-a-week wages may prove a sticking point.
The Chilean attacker has been on loan at Inter Milan this season and another loan deal may be easier to arrange. Jesse Lingard’s value has plummetted in recent times, with Red Devils managers left surprised by the dramatic dip in his displays.
However, they still want £20m for the Englishman, while they are expecting to raise about £10m and £15m from the sales of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones respectively. They would also be cutting the wage bill to allow for Jadon Sancho’s £170,000-a-week wages.
