Man United turned down chance to sign 25-year-old Bundesliga midfielder

Red Devils reportedly failed with a bid to sign Corentin Tolisso on loan in the winter transfer window. The Bavarians ready a new Bundesliga transfer record €42million when they signed France international from Lyon back in 2017, but the midfielder has since failed to live up to expectations at the Allianz Arena.

A severe knee injury sidelined Corentin for the vast majority of the 2018/19 season and the midfielder has struggled for regular game time under new boss Hans-Dieter Flick this term. Tolisso has grown increasingly frustrated with his peripheral role at Germany, and the club would consider letting him go in the summer as long as they can bring in a replacement.

However, Bundesliga giants were not prepared to part with the 25-year-old midfielder midway through the campaign and so turned down Red Devils approach to take him on loan last month. Bayern ‘had no choice’ but to reject Man United due to a lack of depth in Hans-Dieter’s team, leaving the German seriously short of options in midfield.

The French midfielder is tied to Bayern Munich until 2022 after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal when he joined the club in 2017. Red Devils added Odion Ighalo and Bruno Fernandes to their squad before the winter transfer deadline, and the latter made his debut in the club’s goalless draw at home to Wolverhampton.

The Norwegian manager has confirmed that Ighalo could make his first appearance in Man United’s upcoming clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. ‘Yeah, he is going to travel with us,’ Ole Gunnar Solskjær said.
