Merseyside club in the hunt for €80m-rated Serie A centre-forward

Merseyside club are reportedly ahead of Red Devils in the running to seal the transfer of Inter Milan centre-forward Mauro Icardi. The 26-year-old striker has shone at Nerazzurri but looks likely to be sold by the club this transfer window after a row that saw him fall out of favour last campaign.

Mauro is now eager for a move to a Premier League ‘big six’ club – except Man United and Man City, who are wary of signing this complicated character with all the baggage he brings. Chelsea, meanwhile, are under a transfer ban, while Spurs and Gunners don’t need new centre-forwards, leaving only Reds.

German manager might also have understandable concerns about Argentina international’s personality, but there’s no doubt Liverpool seem to be in the market for new attacking footballers this transfer window.

Big names like Ousmane Dembele, Marco Asensio and Nicolas Pepe have been linked as among Merseyside club’s priority targets, and Mauro could be a decent alternative. Argentina striker would no doubt be a gamble, but perhaps one that would pay off if Jurgen can get him to focus and fulfil his enormous potential.

Icardi has also been linked with Napoli and Juventus and is expected to cost nearly £90m. He joined the Nerazzurri from Sampdoria in 2013 with a £12m deal. He is one of the best strikers in Europe and a key figure for the club.

Mauro also named in the national team squad several times which is already a big success for the footballer. He scored 17 goals and made five assists in all competitions last campaign.
