Mikel Arteta planning to sell two midfielders during the summer

The London giants are prepared to cash in on midfielders Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira this summer, according to reports. The pair are regulars in Mikel Arteta’s side but have been linked with moves away from this campaign.

Uruguay international has not played as much as he would like while Switzerland international has endured a turbulent season ever since an ugly confrontation with Gunners fans last October. Granit had the captaincy stripped from him and could have switched clubs in January, but was eventually welcomed back into the side.

Gunners are open to selling the footballers, but the London giants are not confident there will be any suitable offers. Clubs are struggling to recover from the impact of the covid pandemic, and the financial woes are expected to have a huge impact on the summer transfer window.

Lucas has been repeatedly linked with a come back to Serie A, and the 24-year-old has admitted he would love to play in Italy again one day. Granit was eyeing a move back to Germany in winter and is set for a spell in the treatment room after Gunners nightmare come back to action.

Man City mauled the London giants 3-0 at a crowd-less Etihad, with Granit going down injured after only six minutes. The Swiss midfielder was taken off on a stretcher after appearing to twist his ankle and was replaced by Dani Ceballos.

Lucas was not playing as he continues to recover from injury, as Gunners missed the opportunity to make up ground in their bid to claim a Champions League spot. The London giants are away from home again on the weekend when they take on relegation battlers Brighton.
