Napoli on the verge of signing €40m-rated Man United long-term target

Napoli are on the verge of signing PSV Eindhoven forward Hirving Lozano, who had also been a target for the Red Devils over the transfer window. Man United expressed an interest in Mexico international earlier in the year, and he was keen on securing a move to Theatre of Dreams to fulfil a long-held dream of playing in the Premier League.

Red Devils ultimately decided against tabling a formal offer for Lozano, who contributed 17 goals and eight assists in 30 Eredivisie matches for the Lightbulbs last campaign. Hirving is now ready to sign a five-year contract at Napoli, having already agreed on personal terms with the Italian club.

Any hopes Man United supporters might have had regarding a possible move for the 24-year-old winger in the new year have now been effectively squashed, with the exciting forward ready to join up with the Little Donkeys at Stadio San Paolo.

The Mexican attacker has the quality to add a new dimension to Napoli’s front-line, as the club aims to close the gap between themselves and Serie A champions Juventus this campaign. Red Devils did bring in 21-year-old Welsh starlet Daniel James in the transfer window, but they also allowed Romelu Lukaku to join Inter Milan.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are now expected to lead Man United attack throughout the 2019-20 season, but a player like Lozano could have been an excellent extra option for the Norwegian manager. Hirving likes to operate from the left-hand side, causing havoc for defences with his jinking runs and electrifying pace.
