PSG enter the battle to sign 26-year-old Arsenal transfer target
PSG are interested in signing Atletico Madrid footballer Thomas Partey. The Parisians transfer chief Leonardo has already expressed a desire to sign the tireless defensive midfielder, which could be a huge blow to the PL giants Gunners.
Arsenal were keen on Ghana international, but that they’d only be able to fund a move if they were to secure the UCL qualification this season. It’s added that Parisians have prioritised a move for Thomas in the summer, this isn’t surprising considering the limited roles that Ander Herrera and Leandro Paredes have played this campaign.
Partey’s release clause currently stands at €50m, Diego Simeone’s side are keen on agreeing on a new deal which would see this minimum fee raised to €100m. With Gunners sitting ninth in the Premier League, their opportunities of finishing in the UCL spot are slim, so they may miss out on the 26-year-old midfielder’s signature.
The Ghanaian midfielder, who has played 35 games this campaign, showcased his fantastic ability with fine displays against Liverpool in the Champions League just before the campaign was halted due to Covid crisis.
Thomas is phenomenal at breaking up the play, and his tireless work-rate make him one of the best ball-winning midfielders in the world, he’d be a fine option for a Parisians side that want more tournament in midfield and perhaps someone who can do what Idrissa Gueye does for them in the long-term.
Thomas Partey is reluctant to sign an extension, despite Atletico offering to double his wages. Clubs are expected to spend less in the upcoming window due to the covid pandemic, but Parisians could be an exception due to their lucrative owners.
