PSG enter the battle to sign 29-year-old Liverpool transfer target
PSG are preparing a bid for Thiago Alcantara and are set to match Bayern Munich’s asking price for the reported Reds transfer target. The 29-year-old midfielder has spent the last seven years with the Bavarians but is seeking a new challenge and the Bundesliga giants are resigned to losing one of their crucial footballers.
The Merseyside giants have been strongly linked with Spain international, despite the German tactician’s insistence that the PL champions, who pulled out of the race to sign Chelsea new footballer Timo Werner, are unlikely to spend heavily this summer.
‘I have no idea who will play for me next year, there is nothing to say at the moment,’ Jurgen Klopp said last week. ‘Thiago Alcantara is a great player, but also a Bayern Munich player. That’s actually all there is to say. There’s nothing to say!’
With the likes of Curtis Jones pushing for regular first-team inclusion allied to Naby Keita’s recent improvement, Reds need for midfield reinforcements is not as pressing as it was. Parisians, however, are set to firm up their interest in the former Blaugrana midfielder and table an offer in the region of €30m
Alcantara has only a solitary year remaining on his current deal but the Parisians, who resume their UCL season imminently, are set to pay top dollar for a footballer who is central to sporting director Leonardo’s rebuild.
The Brazilian is also said to harbour an interest in Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as well as AC Milan star Ismael Bennacer and Chelsea flop Tiemou Bakayoko.
