PSG set to steal Man United ace from under the noses of La Liga giants

Paris Saint-Germain line up transfer move for Manchester United stopper David de Gea

De Gea has consistently been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but it is Real Madrid who have always been considered his biggest suitors. Real saw a transfer for De Gea fall through in the eleventh hour two years ago and United have been waiting for the Spanish giants to return for their goalkeeper’s signature. But, French publication Le10 Sport claim Real could face competition from PSG next summer.

The French giants are looking for alternatives to their current ‘keepers, Alphonse Areola and Kevin Trapp, and have long been linked with a big bid for Jan Oblak. Oblak’s Atletico Madrid contract has a €100million release clause, but PSG’s extraordinary spending last summer ruined any chances of them signing the Slovenian. Neymar’s and Kylian Mbappe’s price tags took up all of PSG’s transfer budget in the summer, meaning they had no funds left over to buy a world class stopper.

But, the Ligue 1 side will move for a stopper next summer and it is believed they have set their sights on De Gea as a cheaper option to Oblak. De Gea’s deal does not include a release clause and PSG’s director of football, Antero Henrique, has already been in contact with De Gea’s agent, Jorge Mendes. The Spain international would still cost a hefty fee, but PSG are hopeful he would cost less than the £90m they would be expected to pay for Oblak.

Jose Mourinho dropped De Gea at the end of last season and kept faith with Sergio Romero in the Europa League campaign. But, the 26-year-old has played every minute of United’s campaign so far this season aside from the EFL Cup tie against Burton Albion. United are confident De Gea will sign a new deal that would put off potential suitors next summer
