Revealed reason why €50m-rated Arsenal midfielder missed PL match
Gunners youngster, Matteo Guendouzi’s bust-up with the Spanish manager, was not his only disciplinary infraction, with the midfielder reportedly clashing with one of his partners.
France international was dropped from the Gunners squad that faced Magpies last week after clashing with his coach during the London club’s winter training camp in Dubai, exchanging heated words with the boss.
Matteo returned to the matchday squad for Sunday’s win over Everton, though, and was brought on late in the match to help see out the result. While Guendouzi appears to be back in Mikel’s good books, David Ornstein is reporting that the midfielder had to be reprimanded for a second altercation.
This incident happened before the trip to Dubai, with the 20-year-old midfielder rowing with a teammate mid-training session, and the Spaniard had to pull up both footballers. The French midfielder was deemed the instigator, though, and was given a sterner dressing down by his coach.
The third incident, this one during the winter camp, when technical director Edu had to tell off Matteo for removing his shirt and waving it around while the squad listened to some local music.
Amid the issues, Gunners have been happy with how Guendouzi has responded, backing Mikel over his decision to raise the standards in the squad, and the midfielder was trusted to come off the bench with Everton on the weekend.
While the Spanish tactician did not want to address rumours of a bust-up with Frenchman directly, he hinted that disciplinary issues played a role. ‘It was about the way we train, the way we play, the way we live,’ Mikel Arteta said last week.’
