Roma legend is confident that £120,000 loanee will impress in Italy

Former Roma attacker Francesco Totti is confident that Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s loan switch to the Serie A club will be a success, amid his struggles for form at Emirates Stadium. Armenia international scored six Premier League goals in 25 matches last campaign and played three games for Arsenal this season, before leaving for Giallorossi on loan.

However, Henrikh has struggled to produce his best form regularly and has been in and out of the starting line-up at the London club. With the signing of Nicolas Pepe and the emergence of the likes of Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson, Mkhitaryan was deemed surplus to requirements and was shipped off to Italy.

He is still yet to make his debut for Giallorossi, but when it comes, Francesco is confident he will impress. ‘Henrikh can bring quality and quantity, so it’s a good move,’ Totti said. ‘He hasn’t always played regularly over the last two seasons at the Gunners, but I hope he can feel at home at Stadio Olimpico.

‘The fans will certainly appreciate him here, as he has an excellent technique and is eager to prove himself.’ The 30-year-old attacker showed some form as he scored twice in an amazing 4-2 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina for Armenia on the weekend and could make his Giallorossi debut this Sunday with Sassuolo.

Totti may be optimistic about Armenian star’s impact in Serie A, but he does not think his club will be difficult for the Scudetto this campaign, nor will they make the top three. ‘I still maintain Juventus are the club to beat this campaign,’ Francesco said.
