Serie A giants in the hunt for 25-year-old Chelsea long-term target

Roma are ready to make a winter offer to add Elseid Hysaj from fellow Serie A club Napoli. Giallorossi’s primary goal for the winter transfer window is to bolster in the right-back position given the injury troubles to Spinazzola and the long-term setback to on-loan Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta.

Former Newcastle footballer Davide Santon has featured at right-back for Paulo Fonseca’s side, but it’s clear that the Serie A giants need another quality option to strengthen their squad. Giallorossi are hoping to negotiate a cut-price move for the 25-year-old defender considering that his deal is ready to expire in the summer of 2021.

Italian club’s opportunities of selling Elseid for an amount that they consider as fair could realistically be limited to negotiating a sale in the winter or next summer’s transfer window. Chelsea failed with a £43m bid for Hysaj last year. He is a regular member of the national team squad which is already a big achievement for the defender.

The London club could also do with strengthening at right-back soon as Cesar Azpilicueta is coming to the end of his career and Reece James has only just started to establish himself in the first-team. The Giallorossi have an excellent consequence in the Serie A this campaign as they are in a fifth place in the table.

Roma signed several footballers during the summer transfer window like Nikola Kalinic from Atletico Madrid, Pau Lopez from Real Betis, Amadou Diawara from Napoli, Jordan Veretout from Fiorentina, Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Arsenal, Chris Smalling from Man United, Gianluca Mancini from Atalanta and Leonardo Spinazzola from Juventus.
