Serie A giants join race to sign 31-year-old Arsenal transfer target

Gunners are interested in signing Jerome Boateng from Bayern Munich this month, but they will face contest from Milan who are also keen on the centre-back. Germany international has started eight matches this season but has lost his place in the Bayern first-team, and they are happy to let him go if a suitable deal can be struck.

Jerome has racked up 300 appearances for the Bavarians since arriving from Man City in 2011 and now earns nearly £196,000-a-week. Reports earlier this month suggested that Bundesliga giants are willing to let Boateng leave the team for no transfer fee, just so they can relieve themselves of his hefty wages.

Unsurprisingly, the opportunity to sign a footballer of his experience and quality for no fee has alerted the attention of some big clubs, with Rossoneri and Gunners showing the most interest in bringing him in. The Italian club are struggling this campaign, currently 10th in Serie A with eight defeats and only seven wins to their name.

Serie A giants are expecting a busy month in the transfer market with a deal to sign centre-back Simon Kjaer from Sevilla close to being done, but they still want to add more recruits at the defence to reinforce their leaky back-line.

London club are also in need of quality at the defence, especially with the long-term injuries suffered by Chambers and Tierney, both of whom are currently sidelined. However, a move is yet to be made as Arsenal do hold some reservations about the German defender’s fitness and are concerned about his lack of game time.
