Serie A giants keen on signing £90,000-a-week Chelsea attacker
Roma are stepping up their search for a new centre-forward by submitting a loan enquiry to Chelsea for Michy Batshuayi. Giallorossi have been linked with a season-long loan move for Man United‘s Alexis Sanchez and have identified Belgium international as an alternative target.
Michy failed to make Frank Lampard’s first Blues squad for Sunday’s demoralising 4-0 defeat to Man United with Tammy Abraham, and Olivier Giroud preferred in the 18. Batshuayi has struggled to settle at Chelsea since a £33m move from Marseille in 2016, spending the past 18-months on loan with Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace.
During the second half of the last campaign, the 25-year-old striker struck six goals in 13 matches for Eagles, and that form saw him earmarked for a place in London club’s squad this term.
Frank admitted he was impressed with Belgian centre-forward’s performance during a 4-0 win over St Patrick’s Athletic in July, saying: ‘I thought Tammy, his energy upfront, alongside Michy, was perfect between the pair of them.
However, his failure to be involved at Old Trafford has led to speculation over his future, particularly as his Blues contract only has two years left to run.
The Italian club are looking to bounce back from a dismal 2018-19 season in which they finished sixth in the table and are in the market for a striker with Edin Dzeko tipped to join Inter.
Michy has a decent strike rate of 19 goals from 53 matches for the London club and netted the decisive strike against West Brom to hand them the Premier League title in 2017.
