Spanish club keeping tabs with 19-year-old Man United rising star
Red Devils are in negotiations with Angel Gomes over a new contract at Theatre of Dreams through the club fears he could leave at the end of the campaign. The creative midfielder made his first start of the campaign in Man United’s 1-0 win over Astana on Thursday.
U20 England international has been promoted to the first-team squad under Norwegian coach, but his chances have been limited amid encouraging talk from Ole Gunnar Solskjær that the youngster was ready. Angel signed a three-year contract with the Red Devils in 2017, and his current deal expires at the end of the campaign.
And, Man United have opened negotiations with Gomes’ representatives over a new contract. A contract is not said to be close, and Red Devils fear that they could lose the midfielder at the end of the campaign when he is available on a free transfer.
The 19-year-old playmaker attracted interest from Barcelona in 2018 and is close friends with Jadon Sancho, who has reaped the rewards of leaving the Premier League at a young age. Norwegian manager has promised English star game time in both the UEL and Carabao Cup, but it stays to be seen whether it will be enough to keep the youngster.
Tahith Chong is also out of contract at the end of the campaign, and Man United hope to convince the forward to remain. Blaugrana had an excellent season as they won La Liga one more time. La Liga giants signed several players past summer like Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, Neto from Valencia and Frenkie de Jong from Ajax.
