The Red Devils have finally found the replacement of Spanish star
Louis Van Gaal’s side are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen this summer, if David De Gea leaves the club.
Ter Stegen is Barcelona’s cup keeper, with Claudio Bravo preferred by Luis Enrique in their La Liga fixtures.
According to the Daily Mail, Ter Stegen is beginning to lose patience with the current arrangement, wanting to play every week as opposed to sitting on the bench.
The Catalans envisage the German being their No.1 for the next decade, the source suggests, but with Bravo continuing to get the nod over him in the league, a move at the end of the season could be on the cards, with the suggestion being that the club would sell for the right price.
With that in mind, United are reported to be one of the clubs encouraged by the situation, with the 23-year-old having a buyout clause of £63 million in his contract.
Should De Gea move on to Real Madrid this summer the Red Devils “will move” for Ter Stegen, the report claims.
De Gea was the subject of interest from Los Blancos last summer, but his move eventually fell through and he signed a new £200,000-per-week contract with the Red Devils (via the Daily Mail).
In his eight Champions League appearances this season, Ter Stegen has kept three clean sheets and averaged 2.88 saves per game.
He played against Arsenal on Wednesday, conceding once to Mohamed Elneny in a 3-1 win.
Despite the Gunners firing 20 shots during the game, Ter Stegen was forced into just two saves and one punch.
La Liga giants are currently sit top of La Liga on 75 points, eight ahead of Atletico Madrid in second and 12 clear of Real Madrid in third after 29 games.
As for United, they are sixth in the Premier League on 47 points, four outside the top four with nine games remaining this season.
