Tottenham in the hunt for €50m-rated Chelsea long-term target
Spurs have reportedly joined Blues in the race for Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell. Both teams will head a £50m chase for England international when the next transfer window opens. Blues have been strongly linked with a move for Ben over the past few months, as back in winter that the defender is Frank Lampard’s top summer target.
Chelsea are expected to sell one of their current options at left-back in Emerson Palmieri, with Italy international supposedly not being keen on his coach’s style. With just Marcos Alonso left at their disposal, Blues do need some added quality down their left flank. The same, however, can also be said for the Spurs.
Danny Rose’s long-term future at the Spurs is in doubt after he joined Newcastle United on loan back in winter. That leaves Ben Davies and 19-year-old Ryan Sessegnon at Jose Mourinho’s disposal, making their interest in Chilwell not all that surprising. The Portuguese tactician wants to bolster the back-line during the summer transfer window.
It stays to be seen whether either club would be willing to shell out the reported £50m asking price, with the Foxes having little reason to lower their demand. Leicester City seems destined to qualify for the Champions League next campaign, meaning they will be keen to keep hold of their key figures.
Tottenham have terrible results in the Premier League this season as they are in an 8th place in the table. The Spurs signed several footballers during the winter transfer window like Steven Bergwijn from PSV, Gedson Fernandes from Benfica and Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis.
